The Wallflowers are set to headline this year’s Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series, which is part of the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Marathon & Half Marathon. The event will take place April 30th at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. More than 30,000 runners and walkers take part in the annual event, which used to be called the St. Jude Country Music Marathon. The hope is to raise more than $2 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For more information on the event, click here.
In a story from the website Consequence of Sound we learned…David Gilmour is heading back to Pompeii. The former Pink Floyd guitarist is set to play two shows in the ancient Roman city’s amphitheater on July 7th and 8th in front of a live audience. Back in 1971, Floyd spent four days in the Pompeii recording the album, “A Saucerful of Secrets,” but the amphitheater was empty. The footage was later turned into the critically acclaimed rock doc “Live at Pompeii.” No word on whether Gilmour will bring a camera crew with him this time.
Drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake and Palmer is putting together a tribute concert in memory of keyboardist Keith Emerson. Palmer says he hopes to stage the concert in June. He calls it the very least he can do to honour Emerson’s talent and musicianship. The Los Angeles coroner has determined Emerson’s death last week was a suicide from a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy also showed Emerson had a heart condition.
The funeral for Beatles producer George Martin was a low-key affair. His manager tells the B-B-C that Martin’s family held a small private funeral for him on Monday. Details were not given. Martin died last week at age 90.
Frank Sinatra Junior, who carried on his famous father’s legacy with his own musical career, is dead at age 72. The younger Sinatra died of heart failure while on tour in Daytona Beach, Florida. Frank Sinatra Junior, also a singer, spent several years as his father’s musical director and conductor.
